I love working with franchise brands. There is something exciting about working with multiple entrepreneurs and creating marketing strategies addressing each marketโ€™s unique strengths and combatting local challenges. Working with Sola Salon Studios, I am empowered by the brand’s mission and values. Sola really does put the beauty professionals first and being a businesswoman – who wouldnโ€™t want to work for a company where 90% out of 15,000 beauty professionals are women and working for a company that is championing these beauty professionals to own their own salons!? Pretty exciting!

My path in marketing started when I was really young. I love TV commercials and would drive my siblingโ€™s crazy by reading every billboard I saw when riding in the car. One day my mother told me that I could have a career in marketing and create those commercials and billboards that I loved so much. I would say the rest was history, but it really has been a crazy road.

I am thankful for the efforts my industry has taken to transition and create opportunities for women to thrive. In my career, instead of being classified by my gender, I strive to be remembered solely for my experience and ideas. When I think about what it means to me to be a businesswoman, I immediately think about my mentor and inspiration for going into business, my Grandma. She was a self-made entrepreneur at a time when women didnโ€˜t have the same opportunities we have today. She inspired me and encouraged me to chase my dreams and taught me to always keep learning. She used to say, โ€œEducation is one thing no one can ever take away from you.”

After college, I was hired at a local advertising agency in Portland, OR where my career in franchise brand marketing began. For three years I worked closely with McDonaldโ€™s franchise owners/operators in the Pacific Northwest assisting them with their local marketing efforts and campaigns. Continuing my path with franchise brands, I began working with Oil Can Henryโ€™s, a quick-lube oil change franchise on the West coast, assisting with marketing strategy and execution for both corporate and local market initiatives. After a few more years, my husband and I moved to a small town named Selah, WA and shifted my marketing focus to working with a large healthcare client in the area. I quickly missed working with franchise brands and made my way to where I am now as the Local Marketing Director for Sola.

No matter what I did, whether it was a class paper or a ballet performance, my Grandma used to always ask me, โ€œDid you do your best? If you did your best that is all that matters.” โ€“ That simple question has stuck with me and is something I ask myself regarding everything I do. Is this my best work? If not, then the work isnโ€™t finished yet.

I measure success in my career by whether or not I am continuing to learn and grow in my craft. An amazing thing about marketing, is it is always evolving. When digital marketing first started to gain traction, I was fascinated with the potential it had for brands. I spearheaded digital programs for all of the brands I have worked for โ€“ that opportunity only came because I was dedicated to research and learning not only how to use the platform, but how this platform can help the brands reach their goals and generate results.

If your dream is to work in business and you set your mind to it, go for it โ€“ donโ€™t look back and never let anyone say you canโ€™t. Your voice has power and when you master your craft and present your ideas, your ideas have value and will be heard amongst your peers. Those ideas can make a difference.ย ย
